he will still wear a tie occasionally :)
Ron has been officially retired now for one month. It has been strange, needless to say. It seems like there is a football game on TV every night. He trys to still play basketball, two evenings a week. He has been building a small table on the backyard deck. Many mornings, we don't even set the alarm. We had an interesting conversation last week. I told Ron that he is very generous giving away his money for Christmas. I am very generous, spending his money for Christmas. Those two things combined could be a problem at the end of the month. Ron said, "there is no end of the month any more, only the end of life". hehe (He does have a lead on a part time job- that might off set the money going out with some more money coming in :)

Favorite Nativity

Our Christmas gift last year, from our kids, was this nativity set.
I love it :)

I bought this angel, this year, to go with it.

Best Pics from Christmas 2012

Christmas Day Playtime

Hailey's Mega Block castle.

Papa, playing with Hailey's Mega Block castle :)

Hailey's kitchen set. This is what she REALLY REALLY wanted.

The kids got lots of really cool toys.

Daniel playing with Jaden's Marbulous set :)

I thought the plan was that Santa would bring two gifts and then the kids would get 1 gift from Ashley and Daniel and 1 gift from Baba and Papa...but some how lots more stuff showed up. I guess that is the magic of Christmas- hehe.

Christmas Morning

The fun began about 7 am. Santa was very good at our house :) We all took turns opening presents. These are just a few of the highlights. About mid morning we had cereal, eggs, and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Then "play time" the rest of the day, with all of the fun new toys! (those pics in a second post :)

All I Know...

is that Santa's sleigh was a lot lighter after leaving our house!

(I'll be back later, after my nap, with more pics.)

Use Your Imagination

(A couple of things from our weekend in Bandera.
We also went to Boerne and went to church in Kerrville)

After clearing out the front left corner of the lot...

then clearing out the front right corner of the lot...

Here is the drive way.

And here is where the house goes :)

The Christmas Nativity in Texas might be slightly different than other places.

I don't remember any scripture in Luke that describes a long horn, a turkey, a deer, a cactus, and a cowboy at Christ's birth :)

You've Got Mail

Do you save Christmas cards each year and then wonder what to do with them?
Here is an idea. Many times on Christmas cards the sender doesn't write on the back of the front of the card. Simply cut the front off, then trim it to be 4 inches by 6 inches. Instant, fun postcard.

I made 23 cards and then let the kids pick which ones they liked.

GG typed up address labels and return address labels for both Hailey and Jaden.
I stopped at the post office today and bought postcard stamps.

All the kids needed to do was "stick" the labels and the stamps on the cards.

Then write a short note.
Hailey is too little to write, but she had fun with the labels and stamps. (Her cards had an attempt at her name and some other scribbles :)

Jaden did well writing on his.

Then the kids each took their cards out to the mail box and put them in.
So all of you "PETE (Thompson) COUSINS" watch your mailbox-
(This may become a Christmas tradition at our house)

Phillips 66

I didn't put a picture of this in the last post about Ron's retirement. I ordered this piece of "artwork" to go in his study. If you look very close you can see that the price of a gallon of gasoline is 66 cents. I was curious to see what year that was. was the same year that Ron started working for Phillips Coal Company- 1976.

Cake? What cake?

Marker? What marker?

Last day of work at ConocoPhillips. Ron kept claiming that it was no big deal. But, it really is a big deal :) He said it felt pretty strange walking out of his office for the last time and driving away. He kept his emotions in check pretty well until he got home and I gave him the book from me and the kids, with personal letters written in it. (I did give it to him with a small package of kleenex :)

I guess I have been imagining this day with a much older couple- hehe.

What do we do now???

For one thing he is not getting up tomorrow morning at 4:45. Which means I am not getting up at 5:30. For many years I have been getting up with him to have breakfast and scripture study. (I guess now, he will have to get up with me for breakfast and scripture study :) Then we will "take a number" to get in the shower. haha
