Happy Birthday

I haven't done very many birthday posts lately. Annie is the lucky one :)

When Annie was younger, her birthday and a ladies church broadcast were almost always on the same weekend. We had some good friends that had two girls about Annie's age. We would always go out for birthday dinner and then good to the ladies meeting at church. Even though I have Ashley here now, to go the ladies meeting with me- I am really missing Annie and her friends. It's funny the things that we are attached to from our past. Also, it's fun to realize that eventually Annie will have her own daughter to help her celebrate her birthday and go to the ladies meeting with her. Man that's weird- huh- Annie? Don't worry, you'll figure out how to take care of a girl :)
Happy
Birthday.
We love you.

Just Missing...

my guy.
He is traveling. Spending three weeks in Australia.
When it is evening here it is the next morning there.
We are staying somewhat connected by sending ourselves email, using the same email address :) That gets confusing to reply to the same email over and over. I never know if it's for me or from me :)
And also, an occasional phone call.
I'll be working on Saturday and he will be at the beach ;)
I can only think of one small benefit of him traveling-
I can go to bed or stay up late- whatever I feel like-
and then get up without an alarm.

I even went to Sonic, by myself, and got my usual. hehe

Cutest Cadillac Ever

Last weekend, Ron and I made a quick trip to CA to see Mike, Carrie, Nicholas, and Ryan. It was fun to see where they live, watch the boys play, and just relax. Ron needed a break from packing, loading, and UHaul trucks :) The boys have a very cute Cadillac that Nicholas can drive around the back yard. They have a fun backyard. It's not very big, but it is almost like a small park, including a sandbox, trampoline, basketball hoop, picnic table, and a stone path. Ron helped Mike put together a gas grill on Saturday afternoon.

The next picture is Ryan with his favorite toy- a plastic alligator.

On Sunday, we went to church with them which was Stake Conference. Ron ordained Mike to be a High Priest, and he was sustained and set apart to be on the Stake High Council.

A Week in Utah

3 days after Mason was born, Ron and I flew out to Utah. Sam also flew out there too, just one day before us. On Thursday evening and Friday morning we packed boxes and loaded the truck. On Friday afternoon, Daniel, Ron, Sam, Hailey and Jaden (with the truck and the extra car) took off toward Texas. They arrived at our house on Monday afternoon. ( They spent Friday night in Utah, Saturday night in New Mexico. They spent Sunday evening at Sam and Audrey's house.) Ashley, Mason, and I stayed with Alison and Micah, until Sept. 5.  Here are a few cute pics. of the kids.

The day before we left- I helped Alison make cookies for a Relief Society meeting.

Melted snowmen cookies. (Christmas)

Witch hat cookies. (Halloween)

Pilgrim hat cookies. (Thanksgiving)

The snowmen cookies are made from a sugar cookie mix. The cookies could be rolled and cut into circles, but it is just as cute to just flatten balls of dough with your fingers, into irregular circle shapes. Bake and then frost with a powdered sugar frosting that sets. For the slightly melted marshmallow- place 10-12 marshmallows on a microwave safe plate (spray the plate with cooking spray)- microwave for about 30 seconds or just until they start to get puffy. Carefully pull the marshmallows off the plate and set on cookies. Decorate with (piped) colored icing for face, scarf, and arms.

The witch hats are Hersheys Kisses attached to the bottom of a fudge stripe cookie with orange frosting.

The pilgrim hats are a peanut butter cup (upside down) attached to the bottom of a fudge stripe cookie with yellow frosting. (also small black piping, frosting, for a buckle)

Micah thought Mason might like a cookie with his milk :)

What Now?

I have a dear friend that posted recently, wondering "what now" for her life. She and her husband are in the same phase of life as us. Except... her husband is battling cancer and while we don't have that same trial in our life, everything else is about the same. Old enough to retire, all of the kids are out of the house. (oops, some of the kids moved back into the house. hehe) But retirement is just around the corner. So "what now"? We have a couple of projects in the works, but I thought if I described my birthday Saturday to you- you would get a good glimpse into our life. On most Saturdays, mom and I both work at my store. Ron usually plays basketball in the morning and then does "whatever" in the afternoon. Yesterday, mom and I did go to work after I put dinner in the crockpot. However, Ron didn't go to basketball because he needed to help two people move all of their belongings into storage. He went and rented a U Haul truck and headed to the first house. He and several other men (including Daniel) spent all day packing, loading, hauling, and unloading. In fact they didn't even get to the second place- they are having to go do that one today. When mom and I got home from work, dinner was mostly ready, but after Ron got home he spent a little while working on the sink in the upstairs bathroom. (Luckily he was able to find Ashley's ring in the "curve of the pipe" under the sink.) So dinner was alittle late. After we ate, Ron went with me back to my store, because I had forgotten something that I needed for tomorrow. (In about an hour I am leaving to drive to Dallas to go to the bridal market there tomorrow morning) My birthday dessert last night was an ice cream pie, that mom bought. So... the moral of this whole story is that whatever we thought was "normal" here is not normal any more. hehe
But as far as "what now"- we'll just have to see what happens, we never know what is the next curve in the road of life. We can make our plans and our projects but those things might get slightly altered according to a "bump in the road". hehe In the mean time we will enjoy our kids, our grand kids, and each other, and do whatever is asked of us. Gotta go...I'm headed to Dallas.

Coming to Texas

The Petes are moving to Texas. Daniel, Jaden, and Hailey arrived at our house today. In fact by now the U Haul truck is probably unloaded. Ashley, Mason, and I are still in Utah, but flying to Houston on Wednesday. New baby- new school- new adventure!!!
