Saturday, May 14

Finally some pictures that aren't turkeys or squirrels!!

On Saturday, we decided to walk to downtown Kailua, and do some shopping. Yep, you read that right...shopping- lol. I only bought a couple of small items. Ron bought a box of Macadamia nuts...and an Hawaiian shirt! You will see pics of his shirt on the "Monday post" :) After purchasing those two items, he was all DONE shopping. Anyway...downtown Kailua is a main street right next to the ocean, lined with small shops and restaurants. (Very touristie) We had lunch at Bubba Gumps- again, we got to sit out on a deck, over looking the ocean. (So with walking to town and walking around the shops...it was about 6 miles. My fitbit was happy.) Saturday evening, we had pizza, popcorn, and movies at the condo.

Vacation Photos- Happy 40 Years.

It only took us 40 years to figure out how to go on a real vacation- lol. During those 40 years, almost every trip we went on involved a family activity, or other family members, and staying at a family members house. Sam called that a two edged sword...at least we have family that wants to see us and do things with us- haha. (We did go once to Florida, by ourselves...to see what our Wyndham ownership there looked like. We went to Washington D.C. by ourselves once, to go to the Glenn Beck rally. We went on a trip to Mexico, more recently, with Alison and Micah. But, that is the extent of our "vacation" trips.) So...for our anniversary, we decided that we needed to go see what our Hawaii, Wyndham ownership looks like. Neither one of us have ever been to Hawaii before. The Wyndham, Kona Hawaiian Resort is nice. It doesn't look very modern, but it is kept in very good condition. All of the buildings there are either 2 condos or 4 condos. Surrounded by lots of natural trees, flowers, and vegetation. Two swimming pools and an exercise room. Not unusual for things to be "outdoors" in Hawaii...like the main check in desk of the resort. (I didn't actually get a photo of that). Our condo was one of the buildings with just "two". One upstairs and one downstairs. We were upstairs...so our dining room was an upper deck. (All of the condos there are two bedroom- we had lots of extra space. I couldn't get Ron to have his own bedroom- ha, but we did each have our own bathroom.) Instead of doing one giant post about our trip, I am going to do several shorter ones. This first one is pics of the resort and pics of our Friday evening dinner- at the "Fish Hopper". Our flight left San Antonio at 6:10 am on Friday, the 13th :) We didn't even bother to go to bed on Thursday night, because we left home at 2:30 am, parked the car at 3:45 am, got the 4:00 am shuttle to the airport and had plenty of time before our flight. The first flight was to San Francisco (about an hour layover there). The second flight was from San Francisco to Kona. (6 hours). We arrived Kona about 1:00 pm. Got the rental car and headed for Kailua-Kona (only about 8 miles from the airport). We took a little tour to "locate" a few places, then went to Safeway, for groceries (super expensive!), then checked in, at the resort. We had dinner at the "Fish Hopper"(Notice, in that restaurant, it looks like we are sitting near a window- but without glass- just open, to the street.) After dinner... back to the condo for 10 hours of sleep :) My fitbit really wondered what was up. A night with NO sleep, followed by a whole day of SITTING. (So my 10 hours of sleep on Friday night and then my 6 miles of walking on Saturday, kind of averaged out Thursday night and Friday.)

(The third photo is what the "tops" of the resort look like from another building, on the hillside above. The last photo is an amazing tree on main street, near the "Fish Hopper". Remember to click on the pics to make them larger.)

A Turkey and A Squirrel

Everybody else seems to have cute kids to post pictures of, or great vacation adventures, or something exciting. All I can come up with are turkeys and squirrels- lol. The squirrels and the bird feeder, is amazing. Never fear...the vacation is coming soon...but until then...

A Little Home Decor

I pretty much feel like our home. here, is extravagant...until I go visit some of the other homes in BGR. Then ours looks pretty "normal". Actually, I love my home...it's just not very "fancy"...maybe more "useful". With any home there are always a few things that could have been done different, or didn't turn out quite like expected. But generally, we got everything we wanted...just not "elegant"- haha. Anyway... with my minimalist personality, I would rather have empty space than clutter. I have been looking at ideas to "reduce on stuff". One of the principles there is that once you reduce, you are more picky about what new, comes in. So every now and then I have ideas of some home decor, but I am willing to shop or wait for the perfect item to come along. Several of those happened this month. A little shopping on Etsy, brought some owls all the way from England :) JoAnns and World Market supplied a couple of cute items. An exhange at Kirklands produced some lizards. (Long story on that one. I couldn't do a return, just an exchange, so I HAD to pick something.-lol) Then on a random quick trip through Ross- I found the perfect "birds" in shades of turquoise. Now I need 3 or 4 months of "nothing coming IN" :) And some more stuff going OUT. I may be driving Ron crazy with my chickens, owls, birds, Noah...and now lizards- lol. (Actually, he doesn't know about the birds. He never comes in my bathroom upstairs).

Happy Mothers Day 2016

As usual Andersons came for Sunday dinner. I tried to cook food that mom would like. Meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, cranberry salad, coleslaw, peas, and coconut pie. I didn't think Sam and the boys would be too excited about coconut pie, so I also made little chocolate chip cookie cups. (then we topped those with chocolate ice cream) As you can see, the boys liked those alot :) After dinner there were gifts. Pajamas for mom, a Ninja blender for me (and a Fitbit), "small stuff" baskets for Audrey. (because she loves "organizing", so much...jk.) Mike and Carrie sent "real" flowers. We helped the primary children make paper flowers and I did a cute program insert...Mothers Day Card...for the sacrament program.

Saturday, April 30

We had a couple of the young men and the YM pres. come and help Ron haul branches and under brush from the back hill, up behind the house. This was a work project for "scout camp money". Ron is thinking that he will rent a mulcher and shred up those branches. The pile is actually bigger than it looks in this photo. They worked from about 9:30 until noon, then Ron cooked hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill for lunch. Andersons also came for lunch and then our first swim day of the season. In the evening Andersons went to the Cornyval, in Helotes. Ron and I went to dinner at the church. (Fundraiser for the YW and the cubscouts.) The YW did a "Fiesta" dinner and the cubscouts did a cake auction. I made two cute cakes for the auction.
