Sunday Afternoon, Aug 6

For Sunday, Audrey found a place that would cater lunch and then there was a game room downstairs where we could "hang around" for the afternoon. (ECCO- The Episcopal Conference Center.) They had a dining area upstairs all set up for lunch, several round tables. We didn't get very good photos there. But, it was the perfect place for us to spend the afternoon. Some of us went to church in Oakhurst that morning. This place was just north of Oakhurst... between Oakhurst and Fish Camp. Audrey had some activities planned and also some "picture remaking". (I don't have those photos all gathered up yet.) Mike, Carrie, and the boys had to drive back home on Sunday evening, so that Nick would be there early on Monday morning for swim practice. Here are a few random pics, to help us remember this day and place.

Saturday, August 5

Big, fun activities on Saturday. White water rafting for the big kids and a train ride for the little kids. Then a fun "smores" dessert at the Oakhurst cabin. (I fixed dinner for the Wawona cabin, since everyone was out all day having fun.) Dessert at the Oakhurst cabin was the only evening family time that Mike and Carrie could join. That cabin had lots of fun kid games to play and a firepit on the back porch with outside lights... making it pretty magical. (a few of the "firepit" pics might be from Friday evening... the ones with all of the blue shirts 😉)

Bass Lake Day

On Friday, August 4, the activities were all at Bass Lake. Kayaking, swimming, lunch, then group pictures and dessert in the evening. Mike, Carrie, and the boys arrived in the evening in time for pictures and they brought a cake for dessert. Ron went with Andersons early Friday morning to rent the kayaks. I stayed at the cabin and finished cooking food for lunch, then I drove to the lake by lunch time. (Audrey planned a fun lunch for everyone... tacos in a bag and pudding cookies in a bag.) Everyone else met there for kayaking, swimming, and beach games. Everyone went back to the various cabins late afternoon and got cleaned up and dressed in our "blue T Shirts" for pictures, then came back to the picnic area. (I already posted most of the group photos in my first Yosemite post.)

Yosemite Day

On Thursday, August 3, the main activities were centered in Yosemite. The Petes and the Christiansens didn't get an early start because of the late-night airport pick up on Wednesday.  I have pictures from what I am calling "Glacier Point 1" and "Yosemite Valley 1". Us, Simms, and Andersons went to Glacier Point in the morning, then Petes and Christiansens caught up. Ron and I went back to the Wawona cabin and everyone else headed to Yosemite Valley for the first time. (You will see in my posts that there was a second and third trip to Glacier Point and a second trip to Yosemite Valley later on.) We had our very own "Park Ranger" (Alex) to explain all about the various rock formations, valleys, and waterfalls. Everyone met at the Wawona cabin that evening for dessert.

Airplane Travel Day

Wednesday, August 2 was airplane travel day for us, Andersons, Ashley and her girls, and Alison with her kids except Dallin. I booked us on the same flights as Andersons. The original flight leaving San Antonio was scheduled for 6:30 am... luckily that got changed to 8:30 am. Which was still an early morning for us, to get to the parking garage and the airport. Ashley and the girls were going to go to the airport with us... but their original flight got canceled and they ended up going later in the day. The flights for us and Andersons were on time and no problems. We arrived in Fresno about noon. Sam had a rental car from Hertz and he got that quick. There was a long line to get my rental car from Budget. Andersons went to lunch while we were still waiting to get the car. We met them in Oakhurst at the grocery store late afternoon. After that, it was still about an hour drive to Wawona. The cabin there was a pretty good space for us, Andersons, and Simms. The amazing thing about Ashley's flight getting canceled was that put them on the same flight out of Salt Lake City as Alison. That worked out perfect. Then Micah and Daniel went late to the Fresno airport to pick everyone up. The Simms arrived about 5 pm and we went back to Oakhurst to eat at a Carls Jr. (not a very good choice 😛) Here are just a few airport pics and then pictures of the Wawona Cabin and one pic from dinner.
